Caelan Doris Included in Irish Team While McCarthy Omitted
Returning manager Andy Farrell has selected skipper Doris in his Ireland team for the autumn internationals, however lock McCarthy misses out.
The captain, absent from play since having a shoulder operation in early May, has come back to Leinster training, with doubts lingering if he will be ready to face the All Blacks in the US on November 1.
Second row McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after not recovering from the foot injury suffered during the first Lions Test against Australia in July.
Northern province player Cormac Izuchukwu and southern province wing Nash are also absent due to fitness concerns, while full-back Keenan was previously excluded after having a hip operation following the summer tour.
Leinster prop Paddy McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the sole uncapped member in the 34-player squad, but the Irish Rugby Football Union says uncapped Munster pair Edwin Edogbo and Gleeson and once-capped Connacht winger Shayne Bolton will head to the US as "backup".
After playing the All Blacks at the Chicago stadium in a rematch of their 2016 meeting, the team will play Japan, Australia and world champions the Springboks in the Irish capital.
"It's an exciting group to the squad and it's a chance for the more experienced players and for the newcomers on the summer tour to Georgia and the Lobos," commented Farrell, back to national team duties after a break to coach the British and Irish Lions to the southern hemisphere.
In a mostly experienced squad, Leinster's Sam Prendergast and Munster's Crowley will again compete for the first-choice number 10 position. The fly-half role is still available, as Prendergast and Crowley set to play against each other for the first occasion in the upcoming URC match at Croke Park.
Frawley is the third number 10 selected with the coach deciding not to selecting the province's Byrne.
At scrum-half, the Ireland boss has selected British and Irish Lion Jamison Gibson-Park and Craig Casey, who led Ireland to the summer international victories over Georgia and the Lobos. There is also a return for the western province's Blade, chosen to club-mate Murphy.
Henshaw, Aki, Garry Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey represent an experienced cohort of midfield choices. Osborne is another option in the centres, though the youngster is additionally a frontrunner to cover for the full-back at number 15.
Outside backs James Lowe, Mack Hansen, O'Brien and Stockdale are included. O'Brien shone on his national team debut during the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over the Lelos and Portugal.
McCarthy is the only fresh addition in the Irish pack. The loose-head prop has started two of his province's three league games this season and played in Ireland A's loss by the English in Bristol previously.
The 22-year-old was selected in caretaker coach Paul O'Connell's summer selection, yet did not earn a international appearance.
Munster lock Thomas Ahern, who earned his first two caps in those Tests, is retained, while veteran Ulster second row Henderson returns after missing the summer tour.
Conan, who started each of the Lions matches during the tour, is set to cover for Doris should the skipper does not regain fitness in time to play New Zealand.
The national team will assemble in the capital on Monday before flying to the US on the following day.
