Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Lineup to Face India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-match ODI series facing India, with high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw earning a unexpected inclusion.

Performance Issues Lead to Omission

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international squad following being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a best innings of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

Labuschagne has played 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a Test recall in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

There have been indications of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a red-ball recall as Australia search for a solution to their opening batting issues.

Bowling Additions and Injury News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he hopes to heal from a back injury in time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
