President Trump Welcomed by Japan's Emperor Naruhito Prior to Encountering Japan's New Leader

Former President Donald Trump obtained a royal reception on Monday in Japan, the next stop of a five-day Asian tour which he hopes to conclude with an agreement on a commercial dispute resolution with Chinese president Xi Jinping.

Diplomatic Engagements

Trump, embarking on his lengthiest overseas trip since beginning his term in the start of the year, declared deals with four Southeast Asian countries during the first stop in Malaysia and is projected to have talks with Xi in Seoul on later this week.

President Trump shook hands with representatives on the landing strip and gave a several celebratory gestures, before his aircraft carried him away for a nocturnal sightseeing trip of Tokyo. His official vehicles was later seen arriving at the royal compound, where he had discussions with Japanese monarch Naruhito.

Economic Agreements

Donald Trump has already won a $550-billion investment pledge from Japan in exchange for a break from strict customs taxes.

The country's recently appointed prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, is hoping to further impress Trump with assurances to acquire US light trucks, soybeans and gas, and reveal an agreement on maritime construction.

Takaichi, who became Japan's pioneering female leader last week, told Trump that reinforcing their bilateral relationship was her "top priority" in a telephonic discussion on Saturday.

Additionally, the former president declared he would eliminate seeking the vice-presidency in the next election cycle, an approach some of his adherents have floated to allow the GOP leader to serve an further tenure in the White House.

"It would be permissible to do that," Trump said, in an exchange with reporters within the official plane.

However, he continued: "That's not an option. I think it's overly clever. Indeed, I would rule that out because it's overly clever. In my opinion the citizens would disapprove of that. It's overly clever. It would not be - it could not be considered right."
