Springfield's Favorite Family Arrives in Rocket League: Unfortunately Not the Vehicle Fans Are Hoping For

We already knew that The Simpsons was collaborating with Epic Games' battle royale, but this isn't the sole place where fans can experience the world of Springfield. The long-running series is coming over to Rocket League, introducing an vehicle customization option that will also be compatible in Fortnite. That said, whether players will actually want to equip it is another question, as there's only one Springfield vehicle everyone is eager to drive, and this new offering isn't that one.

What Fans Really Want

While many gamers would absolutely enjoy to compete behind the wheel of The Homer—the famously flawed car the patriarch designed himself in the classic episode "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"—that's not what players are receiving. We aren't even getting the massive SUV, the enormous truck featured in the tenth season. Instead, players are getting the Simpsons' everyday well-worn four-door, which has been in the family since 1989. Though this specific vehicle has seen better days, it remains an iconic symbol of the series. And for players who analyze the game's car hitboxes, the trusty sedan shares the identical collision model as the Dominus.

More Than Just a Car

And it's not the sole cosmetic from the series coming to Rocket League. This limited-time event will also include a series of challenges to earn additional goodies, all of which are inspired by the show. As detailed in a press release, the challenges will require players to "get as many centers and clears as there are The Simpsons years on air, gather boost canisters as if your GPS is set to the Simpson residence, and travel a specific distance sufficient for acquiring the ideal pastries!"

Although the full lineup of challenge rewards hasn't been revealed, here is what has been confirmed up to this point:

  • Blinky topper
  • Homer's hedge-themed banner
  • Garbage-themed wheels
  • 20,000 XP per challenge

Based on promotional images is a reliable guide, it appears players will also receive rims with a television displaying the show's title sequence, alien antenna toppers, a frosted doughnut trail, and rocket boosts inspired by smoldering rubber and Krusty's famous restaurant.

Launch Dates and Crossover Details

The Rocket League collaboration coincides with the extensive The Simpsons takeover of Fortnite, which includes a brand-new playable area of Springfield, as well as a month-long seasonal progression system. This special Rocket League and Simpsons celebration launches on Saturday, Nov. 1 and ends on November 17th.
