The Actress States Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer fitting to voice opinions regarding the Trump administration, fearing it could worsen unhelpful debate and deepen rifts across the nation.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
During a discussion, she commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was moving hastily without clear direction. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, public figures have no real impact in any way on who people vote for.”
She continued, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”
Shifting Views
Lawrence has spoken candidly about supporting right and leftwing presidential nominees in past elections. Brought up by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she voted for John McCain in 2008 then moving to the Democrats and revealing she recognized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was undermining her own rights as a woman.
Previous Comments
In 2015, she commented that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “since I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard abortion access.”
Celebrity Views
The star was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact public figures have over the voting intentions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term appears changed,” noted she of his leadership. “Because he stated his intentions. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a new mother who deals with her emotional state in the countryside. Speaking at a press conference for the movie in the film festival, she addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by expressing that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the conversations of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be normalised to the kids today. It’s going to be normal to them that elected officials deceive.”
She sought to redirect anger about the conflict to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she advised, which was interpreted as a reference to the declaration signed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Personal Connections
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is receiving praise for her performance in Die, My Love. Even though Ramsay has rejected the story being seen as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, the actress revealed that she did relate to parts of her character’s journey after the delivery of her new baby, soon after filming concluded.
“There was concern about my child,” she said, “envisioning every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a drug called the prescription and I took it for a short period and it was effective.”
Film Challenges
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed regarding the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the film while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she said, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
